Kayla is a homeland security major that studied in Denmark! 

KIIS Study Abroad

1.) Describe your Education Abroad program(s): 

My program was in Denmark. We stayed in both Copenhagen and Aarhus. I took courses on Viking archaeology and archaeological methods.

2.) Is this a good program for other students in your major? 

Yes, being amongst other cultures can give more insight into international issues. In today’s world, this is a major advantage for homeland security professionals.

3.) Was this your first time abroad? 

Yes. This was my first time abroad.

4.) How do you feel that you benefitted from studying abroad?

I grew personally from this experience. I had never been away from home for an extended amount of time before. I was worried at first but time went by so fast!

5.) How do you think this experience will impact your future plans? 

This experience has affected my future plans in many ways. It has definitely made me want to go abroad again in the future.

6.) How did the experience differ from your expectations?

I opened up and was a lot more adventurous than I expected to be. The other people in my group were awesome.

7.) What other countries have you traveled to?

While abroad, I was able to go to Sweden and Norway.

8.) Favorite thing about studying abroad?

My favorite thing about studying abroad was the new experiences I had and being able to do them with the people in my group. I love all of the stories that I was able to come back home with.

9.) Suggestions for future students? 

Be open-minded and try new things. Also, take comfortable shoes and clothing!
